01 The story, in three paragraphs

Why everyone keeps coming back.

Nestled in the heart of New York’s Financial District, Mezcali offers an exceptional Mexican culinary experience that masterfully blends traditional flavors with modern sophistication. This vibrant restaurant at 83 Maiden Lane invites guests to embark on a flavorful journey where each dish is crafted with passion and precision.

The menu at Mezcali is a delightful exploration of Mexican classics reimagined with elevated ingredients. Start your meal with Small Plates like the Crab Empanadas—a decadent combination of jumbo lump crab and gulf shrimp wrapped in a golden, crisp rangoon, served alongside a roasted garlic and scallion dip with a subtle kick of fresno chili. The CaliFries, seasoned crispy fries topped with creamy guacamole, black beans, cascabel queso, fresh pico de gallo, and two bold sauces, offer a perfect balance of textures and flavors that satisfy every craving.

For a taste of the sea, the Ceviche features a fresh, seasonal catch paired expertly with zesty citrus tiradito and daily accompaniments that awaken the palate. Tuna Tostadas stand out as well, showcasing sushi-grade tuna atop pressed corn tostadas, accented by bright pickled onions and a hint of yuzu kosho, delivering an exhilarating umami punch with every bite.

End your perfect meal on a sweet note with the Strawberry Tres Leches Sponge Cake, soaked in three milks for a moist, melt-in-your-mouth finish, or opt for the indulgent Coco Passion Pie—a tropical delight layered with Maria crumble, key lime essence, and airy mojito whip.

The beverage selection at Mezcali is equally impressive, spotlighting an array of authentic Mexican refreshments. Whether you're quenching your thirst with classic Mexican Coke or refreshing your senses with the Cucumber Cilantro Agua Fresca, every sip complements the vibrant flavors of the cuisine beautifully.

Guests consistently praise Mezcali not only for its outstanding food but also for its warm and inviting atmosphere. As Matt Tompkins shared, the experience is enhanced by friendly staff and a great vibe, making it an ideal spot to relax whether sitting at the bar or enjoying a leisurely meal. Cocktail aficionados rave about the expert knowledge and creativity of bartenders like Erick and Cesar, who craft mezcal-based drinks with meticulous care and passion—each cocktail is a celebration of Mexico’s spirit and soul.

With a stylish yet welcoming aesthetic and attentive service, Mezcali stands out as a shining gem among New York's dynamic dining scene. Whether you’re seeking a vibrant night out with expertly mixed drinks or a flavorful brunch filled with sharing plates, Mezcali promises a memorable occasion bursting with authentic Mexican character and contemporary flair.

This place was easy to find and had such a nice vibe as soon as we walked in. I loved the aesthetics — the lighting is dim, setting a cozy and romantic tone, and the little candles on each table make it feel extra inviting. I ordered the Baja bowl, and it was really good — fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. My guest had a passionfruit margarita and absolutely loved it. The guac was also delicious, perfectly seasoned, and a great start to the meal. The service was excellent — friendly and attentive without being rushed. Overall, a lovely dining experience. Definitely a spot I’d come back to.

TLDR: Okay spot for upscale Mexican. A frequent patron here for work outings - food is generally okay. Avocado & taco salads inexplicably have copious amounts of mint, and without protein, were quite mid. The grilled chicken, however, was spiced really well and was fire. Ambiance and service generally match up to the restaurant’s promise, but price is quite high for what you get tho.
